Kilim Hostel
Refugee Camp, Pakistan
This project responds to an inspirational hotel competition for artists. We have imagined a space of refuge and expression for Afghan artists who have fled their country.
The plan of the building is inspired by the traditional Afghani Kilim pattern. Construction materials and techniques are inspired by local architecture. The walls are made of mud bricks coated with clay. The roof is made up of a mesh of branches covered in some places with clay for programs requiring waterproofing.
