The Lantern
Extension of the Smallest Circus in the World, Bagneux
This project is an extension of the Smallest Circus in the World by Patrick Bouchain. The building offers accommodation for circus artists as well as passing people. There is a cafeteria on the 2nd floor above the gymnasium as well as additional unheated training spaces on the 3rd floor. Offices are added to accommodate the management of new programs.
The choice of materials fell on wood and polycarbonate in order to generate a reassuring presence. Polycarbonate lets light pass inside during the day and outside at night just like a lantern. This second skin also offers an unheated thermal space. The extension brings a glimmer of hope both literally and figuratively to this underprivileged neighborhood.
