Closed-loop food cycle on board ISS
ISS (International Space Station)

On board the ISS, the food cycle is almost absent. The astronauts only have to rehydrate and heat their food before consuming it. Then, they throw their waste away which will burn on re-entry. The goal of this graduation project is to propose a sustainable food cycle on board the station. The introduction of a set of terrestrial manual activities would allow astronauts to give another meaning to their repetitive daily life and their artificial and dangerous environment: farming, cooking, eating and recycling.
